Module 1: Introduction to Yoga (30 min)

Learn about what yoga is, its’ benefits and the different styles to practice. Get common questions answered about the practice.

Module 2: how to prepare yourself for a yoga practice (50 min)

Takes the guess work out of practicing yoga by going through everything you’ll need to know before you start practicing. Topics include food intake, clothing, studio etiquette, and practicing at home.

Module 3: All about yoga props and accessories (75 min)

“Hi, I’m Christina!

When I initially started my yoga journey I didn’t know the first thing about yoga, but I knew it was something that I wanted to incorporate into my life. When I first started attending classes I experienced a lot of things that were discouraging to me:

- I was attending classes that were way too fast-paced, difficult and confusing for me, and often felt left behind
- I didn’t feel as though I was getting adequate guidance and adjustments from my instructors, so I never knew if I was performing a posture correctly
- I didn’t feel like I had an understanding on what I was actually meant to be doing and lacked body awareness so I felt like I was just going through the motions and trying to make shapes
- I didn’t know how to breathe properly and I didn’t know how to modify poses based on my body’s abilities

We have specific lessons on what you will need to start your yoga practice, as well as checklists. If you want to be more prepared right away, you could purchase yoga mat or a have household alternative such as a large towel ready.

This course provides you with information of how to practice yoga poses according to your level of flexibility, strength, mobility and anatomy.   • If you plan on becoming an instructor in the future and taking a YTTC (Yoga Teacher Training Course), this course will actually help you prepare for your training and become a better instructor. Some of the information you receive will be similar depending on what kind of training you are taking and other information that is provided is not often taught in YTTs. This course is heavily focused on alignment and awareness of the body, whereas a YTT will be all-encompassing of the yoga practice. For example, in this course we move through very basic anatomy and in a YTT you will receive anatomy training in much greater detail. You will also learn about all 8 limbs of yoga in a YTT, whereas in this course we focus on 3 (asana, pranayama, dhyana), with a heavy focus on asana. Having a solid understanding of the asana practice will help you focus on other aspects of your YTT and really make the most of that incredible experience!

  • Anybody can take this course to benefit from the wealth of information provided, however, the physical movements and body positioning involved in this course may not be suitable for pregnant bodies. We do not provide prenatal specific modifications. We strongly recommend working with a prenatal yoga instructor and discussing practicing yoga with your doctor or qualified healthcare practitioner before starting your yoga asana (postures) and pranayama (breathwork) practice.

  • Unfortunately not. We provide contraindications for every posture so that you can be aware of which poses may affect certain health issues, but this is not a fully comprehensive list (although we tried our best) and we do not provide specific modifications for each and every health condition. We strongly recommend speaking with your doctor or qualified healthcare provider before starting the physical practice of yoga postures (asana) and breathing exercises (pranayama) and the modifying as recommended.
